Booked

1 hr 21 mins

In 1969, in a local UK Football Association Challenge Cup soccer match, something very peculiar took place: before the day was done, one man ended up in hospital, one man was sent off the pitch and all 22 players had been booked - the equivalent of today's being shown a yellow card - including a man who wasn't even at the match. And a linesman/manager got booked too. This was the first and only time anything like this had ever happened in British Football. This film, 'BOOKED', is an attempt to investigate this unique, extraordinary event, to uncover the truth, to debunk the myth and finally bring to light a seemingly incredible event which has somehow been all but erased from the record books. The shocking story of serial killer Marcel Petiot, a respected French doctor and town mayor who is also a cunning, violent psychopath. During World War II, as Hitler's forces march into France spreading fear and paranoia throughout the country, Petiot uses the confusion to prey on those most in fear for their lives - the Jews, partisans and criminals desperate to flee the Nazi regime. Posing as a resistance operative, he creates an elaborate, fictional "escape network", offering to help the oppressed flee from the occupied zone to the freedom of South America. Yet there is no network. Instead, Petiot leads his victims to a secret location and murders them. As the corpses begin to pile up, soon Petiot is being hunted down both by the Gestapo, who believe he is a member of the Resistance and the French police, who fear that this intelligent, charismatic Dr could be the deadliest serial killer to have ever stalked the streets of Paris.

Twelve Pianos

1 hr 4 mins

It began with a single piano he brought out to the bluffs near his house, played every evening at sunset. Schumann, Satie, and Piazola. Through the rapid disintegration of the instrument in the elements, the artist sought to show the impermanence of all things. But it turned out that it's illegal to keep a piano on the beach. The internet caught on, the news cameras came. The piano was burned in a fiery cremation. A dozen pianos were secreted along a twenty-five mile stretch of pristine California coastline, muscled onto mountains and cliffs by a small crew in the misty early morning hours. World class musicians, dilettantes, and dreamers played for their friends, strangers, and passing children. Inspired and brilliant performances were filmed in these idyllic settings, even as park rangers hauled the beautiful instruments away. Then grand pianos on rolling platforms prowled the streets of San Francisco. Mind-blowing underground music performances reverberated through a condemned building, reinvigorating a city under threat of a cultural siege. Twelve Pianos is about the recognition of the silent passing of physical culture, our headlong rush into a tacky, consumerist future, and retaining the things that make us uniquely human. These pianos want to save the world.
