This Mountain Life

1 hr 16 mins

Martina Halik and her 60 year-old mother Tania embark on a six-month ski trek through the treacherous Coast Mountains of British Columbia, Canada. This journey has only been completed once before, and never by a female duo. Their adventure is interspersed with beautifully crafted portraits of high-altitude human endurance and passion-an avalanche survivor, a snowshoe artist, a snowbound convent-that are by turns captivating and inspiring. Woven between their arduous and uplifting story are vignettes of others who have chosen a mountain life: a group of nuns inhabiting a mountain retreat to be closer to God; a photographer is buried in an avalanche; an impassioned alpinist; a focused snow artist; a couple who has been living off grid in the mountains for nearly 50 years. What is it that leads these adventurous people to sacrifice everything - comfort, family, personal safety - for a life in the mountains?

My Brother Vincent

The enigma of Vincent Van Gogh 125 years after his death is explored through an extraordinary contemporary play which was was first written and performed by the late actor Leonard Nimoy in the 1970's, and brought back to life by a talented French actor named Jean-Michel Richaud. The documentary team traces Van Gogh's footsteps in the south of France where he painted most of his masterpieces, in Belgium where he was a preacher to coal miners, and in and Holland, where he was born. Countless historians, including from the Musee D'Orsay and Van Gogh Museum, along with others, were filmed discussing the master painter to dispel the myths of mysterious man who has almost always been labeled as mad artist. Van Gogh's legacy lives on as the film explores the world of street artists from Amsterdam and Los Angeles who, inspired by the great master, are publicly recognizing Van Gogh's brilliance. These renowned artists include Paris street artist NOWART, who we filmed launching his own Van Gogh exhibit in Auvers Sur Oise, the town where Vincent last lived. The stage play provides an invaluable service in the framing of the film and it's creator, Leonard Nimoy, helped to narrate the piece before his death. Leonard Nimoy was a renaissance man in every sense of the word as a writer, actor, director, artist, and most importantly a humanitarian. We tribute this documentary to the memory of this extraordinary man who took such a keen interest in the life of Van Gogh and such care to tribute that artist's legacy.

Man Enough to Heal

In this feature-length documentary, we will tell the stories of men who are healing from the scars of childhood sexual abuse. While the statistics are horrifying for both sexes, the media and society seem to treat boy victims different from girl victims and this film will shine a light on the disparity. Lives full of shame, lack of self-worth and body dysmorphia as well as an often-continual fight to believe they are man enough or macho in the face of hiding scars from their childhood. The fear of being seen as a potential perpetrator because of their sexual abuse is a real systemic problem for men recovering from childhood sexual abuse. While the film will talk to some experts, the film will focus on personal stories and how these brave men have lived through their trauma.

But it has also become a deeply divisive subject, as painful cracks have emerged within the Jewish community over the Israel-Palestine conflict, inspiring argument, protest and even censorship. ISRAELISM explores the past, present and future of the relationship between American Jews and Israel. Dozens of American Jewish thinkers, community leaders and activists share stories of falling in love with Israel, and competing visions for a Jewish future, while Israelis and Palestinians describe how their lives are affected by the decisions of a community half a world away. Israelism asks how and why Israel became the cornerstone of American Judaism, what the consequences have been, and what will happen as divisions continue grow.
