Rescue

0 hrs 45 mins

RESCUE will capture the dynamics and drama of disaster response, giving the audience an insiders view of a truly remarkable force for good in a world that is increasingly in need of it. From the individual civilian at risk for their life adrift at sea to a massive natural disaster threatening thousands of lives, there is a mechanism and resources in place to help save lives. Oddly, the instrument of hostility, the military, is even more often the instrument for saving civilian lives on both a smaller and larger scale. Our story takes place in the U.S. and Canada, countries whose military are frequently called upon to support humanitarian crises. In the U.S., the USAF maintains and operates a large fleet of unusually equipped cargo aircraft, the C-17, originally designed to move troops and huge military assets to remote parts of the battlefield in support of combat troops. In fact, these unique airplanes and their crews fly far more humanitarian missions than military missions, carrying everything from Pararescue professionals and the helicopters or vehicles needed to rescue civilians from harms way to medical supplies, food, and even bulldozers to begin the job of rebuilding after disaster strikes. In Canada, ships originally designed for combat support missions are really vessels employed for peaceful means when called upon by domestic or foreign governments, often working with NGO's to provide relief for troubled nations in remote parts of the world. Disaster Response commands are in place to deploy appropriate resources to trouble spots at a moment's notice, often requiring split second decisions with many lives at stake.

Lost Airmen of Buchenwald

1 hr 42 mins

Lost Airmen of Buchenwald is a feature-documentary chronicling the little-known story of Allied airmen imprisoned at the Buchenwald Concentration Camp in the final months of World War II. In the summer of 1944, 168 airmen from the US, England, Canada, Australia and New Zealand were sent by the German Gestapo from a prison in Paris to the infamous Koncentration Lager Buchenwald in Germany. Labeled "terrorists" by the Gestapo, they were sent there to be executed. A controversial moment in history that many western countries refused to admit ever happened, Lost Airmen of Buchenwald tells this harrowing story through interviews with seven surviving members of the group. The film follows them from their days hiding with the French Resistance to the darkest days of the Holocaust, as they struggled to survive inside Germany's most notorious camps as the country collapsed under the weight of the advancing Russian and Allied armies.

Stay Human

1 hr 34 mins

During these turbulent times, the feeling of hopelessness is an epidemic. In a quest to find a path to STAY HUMAN and hold on to humanity in the craziness of the world we live in today, Michael Franti takes us on an experiential journey through his songs and stories of people who have chosen to overcome cynicism with optimism and hope. Michael shares the tales of Robin Lim, a midwife who opened a birthing clinic in the aftermath of a devastating typhoon in the Philippines, Steve and Hope Dezember, a young couple whose love carries them through Steve's battle with ALS, Arief Rabik, an environmental scientist in Bali who perfected a method to make industrial and household products with bamboo in an effort to curb deforestation, and Sive Mazinyo and Busisiwwe Vazi, who help inspire their community of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, through music and education. Michael reflects on his own personal journey facing adversity as a child, struggling to find his voice as a musician, and how he came to find inspiration through these stories. He hopes to inspire people to become changemakers by utilizing creativity, tenacity, and heart to face our daily challenges as individuals, and together as citizens of our planet to STAY HUMAN.
