Progressive Dutch couple, Martin Verfondern and Margo Pool, had only one dream - to live off the land, far from the constraints and complications of the city. But, when they arrive in the crumbling, Spanish village of Santoalla, the foreigners challenge the traditions of the town's sole remaining family, igniting a decade-long conflict that culminates in Martin's mysterious disappearance. As this once forgotten landscape is thrust into the center of controversy, Margo finds herself searching not only for answers, but for the strength to persevere.

Several of the interviews in this documentary were filmed at a symposium about the career and biography of Michael Chekhov, which was held in the US in the 1990s. The participants in the symposium shared their memories about being taught by, or working with, the late, great actor, director, and drama coach, Russian-born Chekhov (1891-1955), who was the nephew of the Russian writer Anton Chekhov (1860-1904). Many film clips, plus some rare stills of Chekhov & Shdanoff themselves, are added, to illustrate the interviews and commentaries. One of the participants, actress Mala Powers, is mentioned in the film's credits also as executor of Michael Chekhov's estate & foundation, and undoubtedly played an important role in getting this documentary made.

And once everything has been made free it is very hard to turn back the tide. "We're like a butcher who has given free meat away for 15 years and then tells his customers they have to pay. They wonder why." Edwy Plenel, ex-Le Monde editor and founder of Mediapart, an investigative journalism start-up, says there is a serious danger with free content and content aggregation sites. He claims it is eroding good journalism; the backbone of democracy. The conflict is building. Aggregators have now changed how people interact with news. Digital companies like Buzzfeed think they've found the future in their social news revolution: "It's not just a broadcast of one to many, it's a model of lots of different people who are networked sharing things". But many journalists and editors fear that if things stay the way they are there'll be no investigative journalists left in ten years time.
