1 hr 2 mins

It is a new one-hour documentary about the events, people and politics behind the struggle to preserve a rural area of New Jersey between 1959 and 1968. The fight began when the powerful Port of New York Authority announced plans to construct a huge 10,000 acre "jetport" 26 miles west of New York City in a little-known place called the Great Swamp. In the name of progress, entire towns would be obliterated, the aquifer and wildlife destroyed, and a way-of-life threatened for thousands of people.

Steve McQueen: Desert Racer

0 hrs 49 mins

In this fast-paced hour long biopic documentary, Director Jon Brewer unearths the fascinating story that is the undercurrent of film icon Steve McQueen's favourite past time as a desert motorbike racer and hidden talents that are generally unknown. More specifically, his obsession with motorbikes and the invention of the racing bike which was the by-product of his relationship with Stunt Double Bud Ekins and the film they were in together, 'The Great Escape'. As the two men shared their enthusiasm for motorbikes, it was a natural progression for them to work together in Bud's motorbike shop in California, fixing , tinkering and riding, and working to improve performance. This brought about their concept of combining a Metisse frame and a Triumph engine for a new track racing bike. McQueen decided to take this model to England where he met up with the Rickman brothers of Metisse motorbikes, and the 'Desert Racer' was soon born. Decades on, Chad McQueen, Steve's son, authorised the model for reproduction of the 'Desert Racer', and 300 of these Limited Edition motorbikes have been handcrafted by a small company out of Oxfordshire. Narrated by Charlie Boorman, this documentary is packed with precious archive photos and footage, and includes interviews with Chad McQueen, the creator of the replica, and others germane to the story of this side of Steve McQueen's hidden passion.

Paper Lanterns

1 hr 0 mins

On August 6, 1945, the atomic bomb exploded over Hiroshima. Little known is the fact that among the estimated 140,000 casualties of that day were 12 American prisoners of war held at the Hiroshima Military Police Headquarters since July 28, when they had been shot down during a bombing raid. For decades, many of the families of these 12 Americans were never informed as to the fates of their loved ones. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Mr. Shigeaki Mori, himself a hibakusha (A-bomb survivor), the names of these 12 are now included in the Hiroshima Peace Museum, and the relatives have learned the truth. Paper Lanterns documents the story of Mr. Mori and his dream of reaching out to the relatives of these lost airmen.

Logan's Syndrome

1 hr 19 mins

Logan Madsen is one in a billion. Literally. Despite possessing an incredibly rare genetic disorder called Miller Syndrome-a condition that affects fewer than thirty people in the world-Logan is able to create stunning, hyper-realistic paintings. Beginning as a painter of pretty flower portraits, Logan's work evolved into an audacious series of pictures boldly depicting his disabilities. After years longing simply to "blend in", Logan's dynamic paintings dare the world to not just look, but to stare. Logan's Syndrome takes us on a fascinating journey, as Logan-like a modern Don Quixote-challenges the windmills of his life: his disability, the break-up of his "perfect" Mormon family and his eternal search for romantic love. But it's Logan's humor and courageousness that ultimately draw us into his world-as we experience what it's like to be Logan, shattering everything we think we know about disability, while reinforcing what it means to be human.

Married to a Paedophile

1 hr 30 mins

Innovative audio/visual documentary/drama using real-life audio interviews recorded over the course of a year with families after a family member has been charged with possessing indecent images of children. Unsurprisingly, the interviewees (who include wives, children, and the offenders themselves) are reluctant to appear on camera for fear of reprisals so their words are lip-synched to by a cast of actors. Due to advances in detection, the police are charging more people than ever before for possessing images of child sexual abuse, and many of these turn out to be family men with their own children. Some of the women married to these paedophiles are completely unaware of what their partner has been secretly doing and the first they know about their husbands' vile crimes is when the police turn up at their front door. This documentary follows two families as they navigate the fraught relationships, deal with the stigma and shame of the offence, and make difficult decisions about their future.

The Black Book

1 hr 53 mins

THE BLACK BOOK OF FATHER DINIS explores the tumultuous lives of Laura (Lou de Laâge), a peasant maid, and Sebastian (Vasco Varela da Silva), the young orphan in her charge, against a backdrop of overflowing passion and revolutionary intrigue in Europe at the twilight of the 18th century. An unlikely adventure yarn that strides the continent, from Rome and Venice to London and Paris, with whispers of conspiracies from the clergy, the military, and the gentry, this sumptuous period piece ponders the intertwined nature of fate, desire, and duty. Conceived by director Valeria Sarmiento as an appendix to the expansive literary maze of her late partner Raul Ruiz's landmark MYSTERIES OF LISBON, this picaresque chronicle both enriches the earlier work and stands on its own as a grand meditation of the stories we construct about ourselves.
