Was Ruby insane or was the killing of Dr. Clifford Leroy Adams the last sane act of a woman whose wealth and status could not protect her from the blind indifference and humiliations of the Jim Crow South? The ghost of Ruby McCollum still roams the streets of Live Oak, Florida.

His low quality novels have bad reviews but become best-sellers; Jabez enriches; has success with women, but has no time for his friends. Jabez meets with publisher Daniel Webster (Sir Anthony Hopkins) who offers him a chance to break the contract with the devil.

Jason decides to finish the game with Erica to undo the curse.
