This second film of four, "A Distant Thunder", continues the story of Patty, a young woman living in the "end times" of biblical prophecy, begun in the first film of the series entitled, "A Thief in the Night." This second film finds Patty living as a fugitive, trying to hide from the ever-increasing evil around her. Relentlessly pursued and finally captured by the forces of UNITE, she is given a choice: Either receive "the mark" or face death.

We all have apartment horror stories: annoying roommates, asshole landlords, dilapidated buildings, among many more nightmare scenarios. The search for a nice place to live in a desirable location with reasonable rents, decent neighbors and soundproof walls is more of a challenge than it should be, so when Sarah lucks into a sweet one-bedroom at Asilo Del Mar Apartments, she think she's hit the jackpot. Situated on a quiet street in Los Angeles, it's got plenty of space, friendly tenants, group BBQs and even a cute neighbor next door. But this being L.A., all is not what it seems: loud noises start keeping her awake at night; her cat is missing; everyone seems to be a little too helpful and friendly, except for the weirdo, Lester. Soon, Sarah learns she didn't choose this apartment - it chose her.

Gerry and Tom Jeffers are finding married life hard. Tom is an inventor/ architect and there is little money for them to live on. They are about to be thrown out of their apartment when Gerry meets rich businessman being shown around as a prospective tenant. He gives Gerry $700 to start life afresh but Tom refuses to believe her story and they quarrel. Gerry decides the marriage is over and heads to Palm Beach for a quick divorce but Tom has plans to stop her.

Victor (William Levy) has a deep secret - he is a cold-blooded assassin. Smooth talking and seductive, Victor was raised to do one thing only, which is to kill for money. After Victor leaves the compound, Sarai seizes her chance at freedom by hiding out in Victor's car. But things don't go as planned and instead of being transported back to her home, she finds herself free from one dangerous man only to be caught in the clutches of another. While on the run from the vengeful drug lord and his brutal henchmen, Victor's conscience catches up with him as he risks all that he stood for to protect his captive. In the end, the power Sarai unknowingly holds over Victor and their undeniable attraction may be what places her right in the arms of a killer.

The famed slugger is played by Bendix, who resembles Ruth slightly in looks and not at all in baseball ability. The film traces the "life and times" of Ruth, including his famous "called shot" in the 1932 World Series.

The "Cotton Blossom," owned by the Hawks family, is the show boat everyone goes to for great musical entertainment down south. Julie LaVerne and her husband are the stars of the show. After someone tells the local police that Julie (who's half-African-American) is married to a white man, they are forced to leave the show boat because interracial marriages are forbidden. Magnolia Hawks, Captain Andy Hawks' daughter, becomes the new show boat attraction, and her leading man is Gaylord Ravenal, a gambler. The two instantly fall in love, and marry without Parthy Hawks' approval. Magnolia and Gaylord leave the "Cotton Blossom" for a whirl-wind honeymoon. Soon after, Magnolia realizes that gambling means more to Gaylord than anything else. Magnolia confronts Gaylord, and after he gambles away their fortune he leaves her, not knowing she is pregnant. Magnolia, penniless and pregnant, and is left to fend for herself, and make a new start.

A savvy veteran army captain (Danny Glover) is teamed with a by-the-book West Point officer (Ray Liotta) to lead the "weightiest" military maneuver ever. Their job: To secretly transport a full-grown elephant across 200 miles of rugged terrain – fording rivers, scaling mountains and crossing canyons – to reach a remote jungle village. A man (James Garner) wearing an expensive gray suit finds himself in Central Park in New York City not knowing who he is or how he got there; he doesn't even know how he takes his coffee. All he has in his possession is a crumpled piece of paper wrapped around a couple of pills; scribbled on the paper is a phone number. He is also wearing a ring with a broken stone, engraved with the monogram G.V. monogram, G.V. The phone number takes him to a woman who doesn't know who he is. Based on what she calls him and some item association, he begins to call himself "Sam Buddwing" if anyone asks him. As he wanders New York City in a daze, he believes he could be an escaped mental patient based on a newspaper story, his clothes, and the monogrammed ring. But a vision of a young brunette makes him remember a woman named Grace. He manages to spend time with a few women during the day, believing that each one is Grace. Time with one that he knows is not Grace might provide the strongest trigger to remember who he and Grace are and why he was in Central Park in such a despondent state.

Ronny Bowers, a saxophonist in Benny Goodman's band, has won a talent contest and a ten week contract with a film studio. On his first evening he is supposed to go with the studio's star Mona Marshall to a movie premiere. But she doesn't want to go, so the bosses decide to use a double for her: Virginia. When Mona finds out next morning that happened, she insisted to fire her double and Ronny. Ronny finds work as a singing waiter in a drive-in, and is spotted by a director of the same studio, who wants him to lend his voice for a leading actor in a musical. After the first screening Louella Parsons invites him to sing on her program, "Hollywood Hotel". He accepts, not knowing that Ronny Bowers does not want to lend him his voice again. So everybody starts to play his little game to solve his own problems.

When the intelligent criminal Erwin "Doc" Riedenschneider is released from prison, he seeks a fifty thousand-dollar investment from the bookmaker Cobby to recruit a small gang of specialists for a million-dollar heist of jewels from a jewelry. In reality, Mike and Liz are the reporter and photographer for Spy. Mike and Liz don't particularly like this assignment or working for Kidd, but their chosen other fields as serious writer and painter don't pay the bills. A suspicious Tracy is onto them, and when Dexter admits the truth, she decides to turn the tables on Mike and Liz. But hours before the wedding, as the more self-assured Dexter and Liz get to work on how to get the Lords out from under Spy's threats, Tracy and Mike, both inebriated, go on a journey of self-discovery with Tracy ultimately coming to her realizations a little faster than Mike.
