Small Town Murder Songs
Walter is the chief of police in a small Ontario town that has its first murder victim, an attractive young woman who is found naked on the shores of the nearby lake. The woman isn't local and while the Ontario Provincial Police have taken the lead in the investigation, Walter assists where he can. The town is mostly a close-knit Mennonite community and Walter has recently returned to his church. He is also trying to deal with his own temper that led to a violent incident some months before. As the young woman is identified, it becomes apparent that Walter's former love interest may be lying.

Bride Flight
In 1953, a flood adding to the aftermath of World War II swells the numbers of Dutch emigrants. Ada van Holland (Karina Smulders) becomes his lover before confessing she's already married by proxy to gloomy Calvinist Derk Visser (Micha Hulshof). Jewish concentration-camp survivor Esther Cahn (Anna Drijver) dodges her engagement for a fashion career and discreetly has her son Bobby (Mykola Allen) adopted by infertile Marjorie Mullin (Elise Shaap), who did everything else right with husband Hans (Mattijn Hartemink). Over the years, some of their paths cross again, and all of the survivors meet at Frank's funeral.

Soon after, Tim explains to Gillian why the family endures Annie's fantasy and why they care for Maggie. When Children Services comes to the Beeman home to question the family's situation, Gillian regrets her decision to contact the authorities.

The climatic scene is the sumptuous 40-minute ball in which Tancredi introduces Angelica to society.
