Honest mint employee, Ghanshyam (Shreeram Lagoo) gets framed for murder by Joseph D'Souza (Amjad Khan), and has to flee from the police. He is separated from his wife, Radhika (Seema Deo), two sons, and a blind daughter. Years later, Ghanshyam, after being forced to work for Joseph to print fake rupee notes, is rich and known as Vikram Singh; his daughter and wife are homeless and destitute; his elder son, Ravi (Vinod Khanna) is a burglar at night, and a rich and respectable man named Kunwar Dilip Singh during the day; his other son, Sushil (Raj Babbar) is a police inspector, adopted by the Police Commissioner (Om Shivpuri). Joseph, now known as Tripathi, comes to know that Ravi is Ghanshyam's son, and devices a scheme that will bring certain death to Ghanshyam and his family.

For her part, Cristina, after the summer, is planning travel to North America; Manolo confesses to Miguel his indiscretion, and Miguel, who is not less regretful, advises him to declare his fault to the parents. Don Leandro, with one of his diabolic projects, attracts Miguel, the new lawyer, through the trickery of Merche, the mistress of don Leandro, and not only dazzles him with an advance, but with another in favor of the father, not that he should know. Miguel, pressured by Merche, falls in the deception. Manolo and Luz let the parents know their true situation, without which they would have, far from it, a drama of what happened. Merche has fallen in love with Miguel, which provokes the jealousy of don Leandro, and the spite of her makes her at last discover the state of ruin that is the property company of don Leandro. Also come to light the bad tricks of the businessman for involving Miguel and his father. Such disaster clarifies and resolves the situation, and Cristina now will not go to North America to escape her guilt, because a new life opens up before them, full of hope.

The issue for Trish is that this is all taking place in small town Golden Valley, PA, her hometown, from where she proverbially ran as quickly as she could thirteen years ago following high school graduation in wanting a life with more opportunity, she never having had returned until now despite her mother, Gladys McTavish, still living there. Trish's general plan of attack is a campaign to convince lawmakers that such stands encourage the entrepreneurial spirit in the young, and to discover the identity of complainant to convince him/her to drop the complaint, the thought that he is Maisie's elderly, ornery neighbor, Hank Wishlow. Things for Trish get complicated when upon arrival back in Golden Valley she discovers that Maisie is the only offspring of her high school sweetheart, long widowed carpenter Evan Payton who Trish has not seen or spoken to since she left thirteen years ago. The two will have to get over whatever awkwardness that stems from her hasty departure all those years ago to work together for both their and by association Maisie's good. As the campaign hits one roadblock after another, Trish and Evan start to fall for each other all over again. As Evan unspoken would like Trish to stay, she in turn may run off as hastily as she did thirteen years ago, their relationship only made more complicated by learning of the true nature of the complaint against Maisie's stand.
