Looking back at his legacy in a new light, one of Israel's most venerated but complex and controversial leaders receives an incisive portrait. Menachem Begin was a proud pillar of the State of Israel, fiercely devoted to the Jewish people. Jailed in a Soviet gulag for pre-war Zionist activities and scarred by loss in the Holocaust, he founded the right-wing Likud party, and was vilified as a fascist and terrorist by critics. Yet Begin is remembered as among Israel's most democratic prime ministers for defending Jewish immigration and signing the historic peace accord with Egypt. Rarely seen archival materials and astute interviews offer rich, nuanced insights into a mesmerizing political figure born into war, but who never ceded the hope for peace.

Her quest for change takes her on a journey around the world, meeting with different people connected through faith, from sex workers in a German brothel to Uyghur LGBTQ youth and traditional female imams in China. It is also a journey through Seyran's life, from her humble beginnings as a Muslim girl in Turkey's slums to a female leader daring to challenge her own religion. Seyran rebels against extremism and hate in the name of peace and love.

The recurring element of powerful footage of Hawaiian volcanoes spouting lava is no coincidence, for the work itself is akin to freshly erupted magma, in a state that is still very fluid and crystallizes in the time it takes to watch the film. Rock Bottom Riser feels like it has been shot through a telescope that is looking out into space and time, mapping galaxies in the making and lights that have perhaps already gone out.
