The San Francisco Giants beat the Kansas City Royals 3-2 in Game 7 of the World Series Wednesday night to win their third championship in five years. It was the first time a team has won Game 7 on the road since the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1979.
This year also marked the first time two Wild Card teams have met in the World Series.
The Royals brought the tying run to third base in the ninth inning, but Salvador Perez popped out in the infield for the final out.
Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner, who tossed five innings Wednesday night just three days after pitching a complete game, was named the MVP of the Series. Throughout the Series, the 25-year-old got two wins, one save and had an ERA of .43.
