Adios, Spain! The defending World Cup champion lost to Chile in a surprising upset on Wednesday.

Spain, which still has one group game left to play, lost to Chile 2-0. Eduardo Vargas scored Chile's first goal in the 20th minute of the game, and Charles Aránguiz scored the second goal just before halftime, thanks in part to an error by Spain's Iker Casillas.

Wednesday's result makes Spain the third reigning champion to be eliminated during the group stage in the last four World Cups, following France in 2002 and Italy in 2010.

Chile will now move on to the knockout round of 16, as will the Netherlands, who defeated Australia 3-2 earlier in the day. Chile will face the Netherlands on Monday to determine which team will top Group B.

Croatia was beating Cameroon 2-0 in Wednesday's third game at the time of this posting.

Thursday's match-ups are Colombia vs. Côte d'lvoire (12/11c, ESPN), Uruguay vs. England (3/2c, ESPN), and Japan vs. Greece (6/5c, ESPN).
