Since that L Word spin-off died before it even hit the ground, Showtime is taking a different approach to serving its same-sex-oriented audience: a reality show.
The network has ordered nine episodes of The Real L Word: Los Angeles, which will chronicle the lives of six lesbians, Variety reports. (Think Real Housewives with lesbians.)

"Even though we concluded our sixth season of The L Word on Showtime this past March, I believe we are not nearly finished telling our L Word stories," creator Ilene Chaiken said. "Showtime has yet again come forward to continue with us this mission to entertain and enlighten and bring more 'L' to the world."  The series is dependent on casting, and if all goes well, The Real L Word will premiere next year.

Chaiken had planned a prison-based L Word spin-off titled The Farm, but Showtime passed on the project in March. She will team up with production company Magical Elves (Top Chef) for The Real L Word.
