It looks like Grace Adler (Debra Messing) is getting a new dad.
Legendary comic Robert Klein is set to play Grace's father Martin Adler on Will & Grace, according to an Instagram post from Messing. He'll take over the role from Alan Arkin whom Messing says was unable to reprise his part. "The Great Alan Arkin was not able to return as dad so we feel very lucky to have Robert," she wrote.
Klein's casting marks a special reunion with Messing since Klein also played her father on the cop comedy The Mysteries of Laura. Meanwhile, Arkin previously appeared on Will & Grace as Grace's father in Season 7's "It's a Dad, Dad, Dad, Dad World." The episode saw Grace beg Karen (Megan Mullally) to accompany her to her dad's birthday party so she wouldn't be alone with him.
Messing also confirmed that Blythe Danner will return to the sitcom as Will's mom, Marilyn. Will's father George (played by Sydney Pollack, who died in 2008) passed away from a heart attack in Season 8.
It's unclear whether or not Grace's relationship with Martin has changed since Bobbi's (Debbie Reynolds) passing, so it'll be interesting to see how they interact when Klein eventually makes his way to the series. Check out a sweet pic of the two below.
