What to Stream the Weekend of September 21

You could use the weekend to mow the lawn, fold your pile of laundry that's still sitting in the laundry basket or, you know, be productive, or you could watch some TV like a sane person. I know which one I will choose. Without giving anything away, let's just say I'll be walking through ankle-deep grass with a handful of clothes I washed last week, because we've got some good suggestions for what to stream on TV this weekend.

1. The Good Cop

Cops don't have the best public image right now, which is why it's refreshing to see a series about some cops who are just out there to do their job and do it well. Is it less action-packed than Badass Cops With Big Muscles? Does it have less romance than Sexy Police Force: New York? Yes and yes, but this charmer comes from Monk creator Andy Breckman, which explains a lot. I haven't even gotten to the best part yet: Tony Danza and Josh Groban play the show's mismatched cops, a father and son who are polar opposites. Tony Frickin' Danza! It's out Friday on Netflix.

2. Maniac

Are you bored of your television shows "making too much sense" and being "easy to follow" and "understandable" and whatever else it is picky TV viewers are asking for these days? Well do I have the show for you. Maniac is insane. It stars Jonah Hill and Emma Stone as two strangers participating in a drug trial in some alternate universe Earth, where their deepest emotions are mined for whoknowswhat. To say this is a trippy series is an understatement, but it's a wonder to watch. Maniac is also out on Netflix on Friday.

3. Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown

These are the final episodes of the late, great Anthony Bourdain's travel and food series. Bourdain just won a posthumous Emmy, but his work has always been worthy of the highest accolades for the way he was able to respect cultures and instill his adventurous spirit in his fans. In this last season, which starts Sunday at 9 p.m. on CNN, Bourdain visits Spain, Indonesia, Kenya and more.

4. 9-1-1

Not all shows from American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy are totally wackadoodle. Some are just plain wackadoodle, like this procedural about firefighters, cops and other first responders. 9-1-1 is centered around emergencies -- be it of the first responder variety or personal -- that may seem ridiculous but are actually based on real-life instances. It stars Peter Krause and Angela Bassett, and will get a fresh injection of Jennifer Love Hewitt in its sophomore season. Season 2 gets a special start Sunday after football.
