Anyone who watched The Nine Lives of Chloe King last night know that it's not all about our feline-gifted heroine. It's also about her swoon-worthy and so human honey, Brian — or as Friday Night Lights fans know him, Grey Damon. So we here at the Watercooler decided to toss a few to the Indiana native, who gave us some deets on his new ABC Family hit and what FNL would have tackled if it had gone longer. Oh, and for the record, the kid couldn't be nicer. Score one for the good guy!
TV Guide Magazine: You're all over TV lately... Friday Night Lights is finishing up on NBC this month, just as Chloe is taking off.
Damon: Yeah, let's try to get famous, huh? [Laughs]
TV Guide Magazine: And we like seeing you play a nice, normal guy like Brian.
Damon: Me too! Actually, that's why I took the role. I was sort of fed up with playing jerks, you know?
TV Guide Magazine: But it's fun to be bad, too, right?
Damon: Oh yeah. I love playing them — my main goal is to be the baddest mofo out there [Laughs].
TV Guide Magazine: Fans are loving the chemistry between Brian and Chloe. Did you and Skyler Samuels know each other before the show?
Damon: Not really. I'd seen her at auditions and stuff. She is outstanding. She memorizes so much dialogue and on top of that goes to school. And she is always there and present. I gotta tell you, she is a great kid... she is a cool, cool cat. [Laughs]
TV Guide Magazine: We're so bummed that Friday Night Lights is almost over. There was still so much to tell!
Damon: Oh, I agree. They didn't know if the show was being picked up or not, [but] if it was they were going to dive into my character even more. So he didn't really get to go all the places they wanted to.
TV Guide Magazine: How was filming the end of the series?
Damon: Everything sort of works out and they end it on a really positive note. It's always flattering when people come up to me and say "Hey, Friday Night Lights!" And that's what they say... like the fans all got together and said "If you run into anyone in the cast, don't ask about the show or for an autograph, just drive by and yell out 'Friday Night Lights!'" [Laughs]
TV Guide Magazine: And what about Chloe? Will Brian ever figure out this girl he's so into is actually cat-powered?
Damon: [Laughs] Her secrecy is what protects her. So the more people who know about Chloe's secret, the more endangered she is. As much as she and Brian have this great chemistry, there are these factors that kind of keep them apart.
TV Guide Magazine: Surely, that won't stop Brian, though, right?
Damon: He's relentless. He really likes her... Brian is the type of guy who goes after what he wants. He's cool like that. [Laughs]
