Talk about mommy issues! When V returns for Season 2 tonight at 9/8c on ABC, we learn that Anna (Morena Baccarin) has been imprisoning her equally sinister reptilian mother, Diana (Jane Badler, from the original V), in a dungeon aboard her spaceship for the past 15 years. We asked Baccarin to quiz Badler about lizards, family values and her new incarnation.
Baccarin: I watched the original V as a kid and was totally freaked out by you. What did you first think of the script?
Badler: Diana is the great evil queen role, but there were only four Diana scenes in the original miniseries, so I wasn't thinking it would change my life. But in the second miniseries, I became a very big part of the show, and the rest is history.
Baccarin: Having a mother humanizes Anna. What they have is pretty much like any other mother-daughter relationship. Moms push their daughters' buttons.
Badler: Seeing how in control Anna was during the first season, it's great to now see some of her weaknesses exposed. Diana is the only character with control over Anna, and I can see that slight vulnerability in your eyes during our scenes.
Baccarin: In an upcoming episode the Vs visit the Vatican, and you get to do a very lizardy-type thing. Can you talk about it?
Badler: I get fangs and do a mercy killing in front of you. They had blood all over me. I love doing stuff like that. When I first read that in the script, I said, "Yeah!"
Baccarin: Who do you think would win in a fight for the throne? You or me?
Badler: I think we are incredibly evenly matched, which is why it's so exciting.
