Ivar (Alex Høgh) is determined that the upcoming battle for Kattegatt won't be a repeat of the last. In this exclusive sneak peek of the Vikings finale, the reigning tyrant reminds the people of Kattegatt not to give his brother Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) any special treatment.
"When I tell you to kill Bjorn, you kill him!" Ivar screams at the crowd. "You have to understand one thing: that Bjorn is not your friend; he is your enemy!"
While Ivar acknowledges that Bjorn and Harald (Peter Franzen) have "great plans" if they win the battle, he insists that these plans do not involve the needs of the everyday people of Kattegatt. "I am the only one who speaks for you! And I swear that I will live and die for any of you. All that I ask is for your absolute loyalty. Otherwise, we shall all perish together," Ivar warns.
And based on the poor souls who are shown hanged in the town square during this big speech, it seems Ivar isn't joking about this whole "perishing" thing. However, we do doubt that he is serious about the "together" part. We all know Ivar would throw everyone in Kattegatt into the line of fire if it meant saving himself at the end of the day. But I guess we'll have to wait until Wednesday's season finale to see whether he or Bjorn manages to survive this epic battle.
Vikings Season 5 finale airs Wednesday at 9/8c on History.
