How does a former soap opera star make the decision to venture into adult films? Kelli McCarty, a onetime Miss USA and an alumna of daytime TV's now-defunct Passions, tells TVGuide.com, "For me, it wasn't that big of a deal. I don't have any problems with my sexuality; the only difference is there were cameras around."

McCarty says that segueing into porn "was never in the back of my head, never," even as her soap opera run came to a close. Instead, she relates, "One day I was hanging out, doing laundry, and the next, I was talking to [Vivid Video co-founder] Steven Hirsch about doing an adult film." Her debut, Faithless, arrived on DVD this week.

Also in this candid video Q&A:

  • McCarty shares what surprised her about the production of an X-rated video. (Hint: It's nothing she ever had to deal with on Passions.)
  • McCarty details Vivid's policies to keep performers healthy and disease-free, saying, "They're more careful about safe sex ... than, I would say, most people are in their real lives."
  • Might this foray force McCarty to turn in her Miss USA crown?
  • How Kelli thinks Faithless will play in her hometown of Liberal, Kan.
