We're Not Sure How to Feel about the New Veronica Mars Theme Song

Weigh in with your thoughts in our poll!

If there's one thing we have in common withVeronica Mars' titular sleuth it's that we aren't great with change. So you can only imagine how we felt when we learned that the Hulu revival would feature a brand-new version of the theme song performed by Chrissie Hynde.

The moody, dark-pop cover of The Dandy Warhols' "We Used to Be Friends" is a sharp detour from the energetic original and even the slightly stripped down Season 3 version. For those of us who've made a cherished ritual out of happily singing along to the theme during each episode, Hynde's cover came as quite a shock, inspiring none of the angsty joy or head bopping we had been expecting.

Surprise! Hulu Dropped Veronica Mars a Week Early

To be clear, this is no disrespect to Hynde, who is a living legend and should be respected as such. And in all fairness, Hynde's version of the Dandy Warhols' bop is much more tonally aligned with the more mature season, one that finds Veronica (Kristen Bell) in her 30s and dealing with problems that are worlds away from the high school drama that played out in the original series. But again, we aren't great at change (see above). So even though we know in our heart of hearts that Hynde's cover makes much more sense for the revival, we can't help but miss the original each time a new episode starts playing.

But unlike Veronica, we welcome the opinions of others. So what do YOU think of the new thing song? Let us know in the poll below!

Veronica Mars is available to stream on Hulu now.
