Ava DuVernay is packing her miniseries with stars
Ava DuVernay has cast the first stars of her Netflix Central Park 5 mini-series and it's already looking like a hit.
The director and producer has tapped Bates Motel star Vera Farmiga, The Wire alum Michael K. Williams and recent Tony-winner John Leguizamo to join the series, according to Deadline. The miniseries covers the horrific rape of a NYC jogger and the two trials that falsely convicted five men of color -- Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana and Korey Wise -- to prison. It will culminate with the conviction being overturned in 2014 and the five men suing the city for a $40 million dollar settlement.

Farmiga will play Manhattan Assistant D.A. Elizabeth Lederer, who led the prosecution against the five young men. Williams and Leguizamo will play fathers of two of the accused.
The series begins production in New York City next month. DuVernay co-wrote and will direct every episode of the series. She also executive produces Central Park 5 with Jeff Skoll, Jonathan King, Jane Rosenthal and Berry Welsh.
