Donny Deutsch has been a fixture on CNBC and MSNBC for years, and now the media personality is moving to sister network USA to star in his own comedy series. USA has picked up six episodes of Donny! to premiere in late 2015, the network announced Thursday at the Television Critics Association winter previews.
Described by USA Network President Chris McCumber as a "Curb Your Enthusiasm-style series," Donny! is a half-hour satire that centers on his professional life, as well as his personal life as a single dad looking for romance. "The juxtaposition of how Donny portrays his public and personal life in this series is hilarious, and the storylines are a real wink for the viewers, showing that despite anyone's profile or success, we all deal with the same issues," McCumber said in a statement.
On Donny!, Deutsch hosts his own daytime talk show, also called Donny!, which tackles everything from sexting to cellulite. But his very put-together public persona is in stark contrast to his private reality as he struggles to find love and also to be a good parent.
The show, which joins USA comedies Sirens and Playing House, hails from executive producers Banks Tarver and Ken Druckerman (Mob Wives) and Deutsch.
In addition to his regular appearances on Morning Joe, Deutsch is the author of two business motivation books.
