Since Under the Domepremiered, the CBS drama has killed off at least one character — if not several — in each episode. Usually they've been people we haven't really gotten to know yet, since it's still relatively early in the series. But Monday's episode will feature the death of a character many have come to know and love that will reverberate throughout the town.
The same episode will also spotlight life, as a Chester's Mill resident prepares to give birth during this turmoil — something that may actually be caused by the dome itself. "The dome giveth and the dome taketh away," executive producer Neal Baer warns.
The likely candidate, and the one that would drive a pin through the heart of the town, would be Alice (Samantha Mathis), the outsider who has acted as the town doctor since the dome descended. But as supplies have dwindled, so has her insulin. Whether the dome will intervene to save her life remains to be seen, but Baer hints that the food riots from last week may indicate that the dome has a mind of its own. "It certainly looks that way," Baer says. "It was panic that caused the town to freak out and raid the supermarkets, panic that began when the water tower fell, leaving Chester's Mill without a water supply. But did the dome make it rain? Did the dome jam the frequencies? That's something you'll find out."
As we discover more about the dome, we'll also learn why Norrie (Mackenzie Lintz) and Joe (Colin Ford), in particular, were chosen by the dome. "Norrie and Joe are innocents," Baer says. "[They're] youth who haven't been tainted by greed or power. They are the hope for Chester's Mill's future, just like each new generation is our hope for the future."
Unfortunately, the death coming this week is only the beginning. When we probed Baer on whether he thinks there's been too much death on Dome, he replies, "No, we're just starting. May Rose [Beth Broderick] rest in peace." Speaking of Rose, look for Junior (Alexander Koch) to seek vengeance in the wake of her death.
Who do you think is going to die?
