True Blood Postmortem: "It's a Big Relief Now That It's Over," Says Latest Casualty

We all should've seen this one coming!

After Terry (Todd Lowe) contracted an old Marine buddy to kill him, it should've come as no surprise that the Merlotte's chef did, in fact, meet his maker on Sunday's True Blood. But what was heartbreaking was that his friends and wife Arlene (Carrie Preston), having deduced something was awry, enlisted a vampire to glamour all the pain away, be it his PTSD from the war or his memories of Patrick (Scott Foley), whom he had to kill to save his own life.

For once, Terry was happy. But it was short-lived since, along with his painful memories being erased were those of planning his own suicide. His Marine friend came through, killing Terry outside of Merlotte's, with the gentle giant giving one last farewell to his wife Arlene before dying. TVGuide.com caught up with Lowe to get his reaction to Terry's send-off:

How soon did you find out that Terry was going to die this season?
Todd Lowe: They let me know in late January. We were filming the first episode. It wasn't a huge surprise. I've had to lie in a few press things so as not to spoil it for anybody. Now it's aired and it's almost cathartic in a way. This character is done and it's time to move on to something else.

What was your reaction to saying goodbye to Terry?
Lowe: I'm still in the middle of it. I really grew to love the character and it's hard to say goodbye to something like that. I carry a part of it with me. I'm also looking forward to moving on and playing something else. I just have to be picky and find the right project.

What was it like playing the happy Terry because we've never seen him like that before?
Lowe: Unfortunately, I only got one scene of it. Arlene has me glamoured and I'm suddenly happy and dancing and shuffling around Merlotte's, running through my restaurant chores, and I'm down. It's fatal, there's no coming back from that. I wish I could've had more time as Happy Terry.

Was it bittersweet that Terry got happiness in the end?
Lowe: Yeah, I hope it played that way in the episode. That was the intention. When we read it at the table read, everybody got chills and emotional.

What was it like shooting that final scene with Carrie Preston?
Lowe: I had a prosthetic on. I get shot through the neck. Carrie's there and we're just lying down. I'm looking in her eyes and she's crying. Tears are falling on my face. It was difficult; I'm not going to lie. We're both crying there and it was hard. It was an emotional day.

How will Arlene deal with this loss moving forward?
Lowe: We'll see in Episode 607. I made a sacrifice for her, so she's going to be OK. She'll be secure financially. She met the guy [who kills Terry] in the last episode, but she didn't know the nature of it. She will seek vengeance. She's going to try to figure it out. We leave it as a little bit of a mystery as to why she can't seek vengeance. I think that will be justified.

Is there a chance for Terry to appear again on the show at some point?
Lowe: I'm curious if they need to use me in future seasons, yes, I will be available. I love everybody on the show and I love the role. I don't know as of now if they're intending to bring me back as a ghost or going back in time, but I'd love to keep working on it.

What will you take away from your time on True Blood?
Lowe: There's a familial essence to the cast. I'll take away a lot of friends and a lot of great memories on set and a character I've really enjoyed playing. I'm going to miss everybody.

What's next for you?
Lowe: I'm starting work on an independent film I'm working a few days on. I'm really taking a break. I was in a kind of a deep depression having to play somebody who plotted his own suicide. Every day going to work and playing that, they really didn't give Terry any of the quirky, funny moments this year. It was a hard few months. I know it's a job, you're an actor and at the end of the day, you go back home to your life. But having to go into work and play that, you think about it, you read the scenes, you rehearse the scenes, it's a big relief now that it's over. I can focus now on my life and look for another character to play.
