What If Tracee Ellis Ross and Kumail Nanjiani Just Host the Damn Oscars?

For real, though

No matter how you feel about the nominations and snubs for the 91st Academy Awards, there's one thing we can pretty much all agree on right now: Kumail Nanjiani and Tracee Ellis Ross killed it while delivering the list of names and films that are in contention this year.

Without being too goofy or lackadaisical about it all, the two managed to be funny and cute but still show respect for the gravitas of the occasion -- Nanjiani was just on the other end of this thing, waiting for his name to be announced for Best Original Screenplay for The Big Sicklast year, so he knows how important it would be to those Oscars hopefuls tuning in.

Oscars 2019: Live Updates From the Academy Awards

Their banter about breakfast and being up at the crack of dawn was all so easy and sunny, and their playfulness played well throughout the whole segment. Which got us thinking ... what if they just came back to co-host the actual Oscars?

As we know, the ceremony is currently down one show host, since Kevin Hart stepped away from the gig after some homophobic tweets of his resurfaced online, and time's a-ticking down to showtime. So, sure, the Academy could just go host-free or bring in a gaggle of film favorites to host the various segments of the show, or even hire someone completely unexpected, but that was basically a slam-dunk audition for the job by Nanjiani and Ross if they want it. They could get up to that podium and just keep talking about suits and cereals, and we'd be delighted.

Judging by the social media reaction to the announcements, we're not alone in this assessment here.

Whoever the host may or may not turn out to be, the 91st Academy Awards will air on ABC on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 8/7c.
