FX has ordered a new drama series, Taboo, which will star Tom Hardy, the network announced Tuesday.
From producer Ridley Scott, Taboo is set in 1813 and follows James Keziah Delaney (Hardy), an adventurer who returns from Africa with 14 "ill-gotten diamonds," seeking revenge for his father's death. He refuses to sell his family's business to the East India Company and attempts to build his own trading empire.
The series is based on an original story written by Hardy and his father. The series adaptation was created by Steven Knight, who wrote and directed Hardy's recent feature film, Locke. Scott and Hardy will both serve as executive producers.
"Tom's passion for this project, from conceiving the original idea with his father to portraying James Delaney, promises to infuse this epic story with great personal passion and credibility," Eric Schrier, FX's president of original programming, said in a statement.
Added Scott: "FX is the perfect partner to engage with this dark, fantastic world that Tom and Steven have created. We¹re glad to have them on board."
