The Timelesstwo-part finale is just over a month away, but the Time Team is already teasing what fans can expect from the final adventure. The finale will pick up immediately where Season 2 ended with future Lucy (Abigail Spencer) and Wyatt (Matt Lanter) emerging from the lifeboat, breaking the core rule of never meeting your past self. Apparently, Future Lucy and Future Wyatt have a dire reason for breaking the code.

"[The rule breaking] will definitely be addressed," Spencer confirmed to TV Guide. "Future Lucy and Future Wyatt, or as we call it, G.I. Wyatt and Tomb Raider Lucy, they're more of a cautionary tale. They show up and drop a bomb."

The finale will focus on two time periods, one on Christmas Eve and one on Christmas Day, as the team tries to figure out how to save Rufus (Malcolm Barrett) and take down Rittenhouse. The Timeless finale will also answer one of the show's key existential questions.

"I just feel like hopefully it's a thing where its satisfying and unsatisfying because ultimately, the audience is living with what will become of the characters," Spencer said. "All of the characters will make sacrifices, and they all make choices. That's a big thing we deal with on the show. Do things just happen to you because its history, or do you have a say in it? Every character makes a choice which is a really huge arc and a huge lesson of the show."

Here's When Timeless' Series Finale Will Air

Those choices may not necessarily lead to fulfilling answers for fans' every question. While the finale will address the major loose ends, it will also leave a couple of threads hanging as the show rides off into the TV sunset, says Lanter.

"We're going to wrap a lot of things up in a pretty package. There are some things are left open-ended on purpose, which I like," Lanter teases. "Some storylines are closed up. We can do a lot in two hours, so I think fans are going to love what we're putting together. There are a lot of cool things happening over those two hours. I think people will be satisfied with what they get. I know it's disappointing not to get a full third season, but there's still some really cool stuff."

Timeless returns for its series finale on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 8/7c on NBC.
