Here's Why This Is Us Isn't on Tonight

And why it might happen again next week

This Is Us only recently came back from a long winter hiatus, but already fans will have to endure another break from the beloved family drama. On Tuesday night, instead of delving into more of the Pearson Five's travails and triumphs, NBC viewers will be treated to three full hours of Ellen's Game of Games, starting at 8/7c.

It seems the short hiatus for This Is Us was intended to accommodate the previously planned State of the Union address, which was originally expected to air Tuesday night. In the wake of the government shutdown, the address was pushed back and is currently scheduled to air on Feb. 5.

Consequently, This Is Us' next new episode -- titled "Songbird Road: Part 2" -- is officially scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 9/8c. Series creator Dan Fogelman announced the schedule changes on Twitter, writing, "It seems revolving State of the Unions will keep us off air for two weeks."

To keeps the drama's fans entertained, Fogelman shared a photo of Lonnie Chavis, who plays young Randall, getting an excited greeting from Lady Gaga at the recent SAG Awards.
