This Is Us' Susan Kelechi Watson Promises Beth Isn't Going to Die

Thank goodness!

Megan Vick

It's time to breathe a tiny sigh of relief, This Is Usfaithful.

Susan Kelechi Watson, who plays badass mom and fan-favorite character Beth Pearson on NBC's drama, has promised that Beth isn't going to die in Season 3. Fans were concerned about Beth's fate after the Season 2 finale, when an ominous flash forward showed Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and adult Tess discussing going to see a mysterious "her" when they weren't ready to do so. Beth's absence from the scene had many watchers worried that she had died and that they might be going to visit her grave, because This Is Us is a show that loves delivering gut punching news in cryptic ways.

"I was really grateful that people wanted her to stay around," Watson told Gold Derby during an exclusive pre-Emmy chat, "but also really glad that she's not going to die."

All the This Is Us Storylines We Want to See in Season 3

Hear that fans? She's not going to die. She even reiterates herself to make it extra true.

"Beth will be around. There's no plans to kill Beth," Watson she said. "I know this has been a rumor, that possibly Beth dies -- she doesn't."

Okay, but we still need to be realistic about the show we are dealing with here. That doesn't mean there isn't another devastating reason for Beth's absence in that scene. Randall and Tess are not emotionally prepared to visit whoever they are going to see and that's either because that person has done something horrible to them or it's emotionally difficult to face that person in whatever state they're in.

Let's be optimistic and enjoy the good news, but don't let your guard completely down. That's how Crock-Pots start burning houses down.

This Is Us returns this fall on NBC.
