This Is Us is adding another big guest star to its ranks.

Entertainment Weekly reports that The Chi creator Lena Waithe will be appearing in the NBC drama in next Tuesday's (Jan. 23) episode. Waithe will play an animal shelter worker who gives Kate (Chrissy Metz) some advice when she shows up looking for a new pet.

"They're a very fun duo together," executive producer Isaac Aptaker told EW. "She's a super cool East Side L.A. woman who loves dogs and cats — and finding them homes."

Kate's decision to find a pet comes shortly after she and Toby (Chris Sullivan) suffered a miscarriage. Having a new furry friend in the house could be a way to start expanding their family again.

Waithe is coming of a stellar year. She was the first black woman to win a comedy writing Emmy for her standout episode of Netflix's Master of None, "Thanksgiving." This year she'll also have a recurring role in Season 2 of Dear White People. The Chi is currently airing on Sundays on Showtime and premiered with rave reviews.

This Is Us airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on NBC.
