New The Walking Dead Season 9 Photos Tease Doom for Carol and Ezekiel

On Thursday AMC released a wagonload of photos from the Season 9 premiere of The Walking Dead, which will jump forward in time to find the survivors living in a medieval society where bullets and gasoline have pretty much run out. But you know what hasn't run out? Love. Love is a renewable resource. The photos show Carol (Melissa McBride) and Ezekiel (Khary Payton) as a couple, which is cute, but doesn't bode well for one of them staying alive much longer.

Coupling up on The Walking Dead is a death sentence. Most of the show's relationships have ended when one half of the couple died. Last season's couple deaths included Aaron's (Ross Marquand) boyfriend Eric (Jordan Woods-Robinson), Enid's (Katelyn Nacon) crush Carl (Chandler Riggs) and Tobin (Jason Douglas), who Carol regretted ghosting. Long before that, Carol's husband Ed (Adam Minarovich) died in Season 1, but he had it coming.

And now a new couple is being set up to be torn apart. My money is on Ezekiel dying, for spoilery comics reasons I won't get into. I just hope his death doesn't send Carol on another "everyone I love dies and I can't do it anymore" spiral.
