Rick Grimes' (Andrew Lincoln) final episode of The Walking Dead is coming up very soon. The Walking Dead comics' Twitter account confirmed on Sunday that Rick's last ride will be in the fifth episode of this season, which will air Sunday, Nov. 4.

It was obvious that Rick's final episode would be Episode 5 when the first details of the episode were announced. Titled "What Comes After," the episode is directed by executive producer Greg Nicotero, who directs the show's major episodes like premieres and finales. It was written by co-executive producer Matthew Negrete and former showrunner Scott Gimple, who's getting his first writing credit since leaving after Season 8 to become Chief Content Officer for the Walking Dead franchise. It was always obvious that Nicotero and Gimple wouldn't be involved in a midseason episode unless it was important, but now its importance is official.

The episode will feature special appearances by departed cast members Jon Bernthal as Shane, Sonequa Martin-Green as Sasha and the late Scott Wilson as Hershel.

It remains to be seen exactly how Rick will be written off the show. He may die, he may get helicoptered away to another location or the show may have some other surprise in store. But Andy Lincoln will not be gone forever; he will return to direct an episode in Season 10.

Rick Grimes' final episode of The Walking Dead airs Sunday, Nov. 4 at 9/8c on AMC.
