The first trailer for Season 3 of USA Network'sThe Sinneris here, introducing Matt Bomer's character, Jamie -- and it looks like he's going to be a little more devious than that angelic face makes it seem. As the footage reveals, he will be involved in a gnarly car crash out in the woods that claims the life of at least one person. And as investigators swarm the scene, serious questions emerge about the true nature of the "accident."

Bill Pullman's Detective Harry Ambrose will be particularly affected by the grisly incident, as it pulls him into what is being coined "the most disturbing case of his career." Ambrose was, of course, the same detective who explored the cases in the show's first two seasons, so he knows a thing or two about duplicitous defendants. Based on the trailer, it looks like he won't have a lot of faith in Jamie's innocence in this case.

The Sinner Season 3 also stars Chris Messina as Nick Haas, a college friend of Jamie whose return to town "alters the course of their friendship and lives." In the preview, his presence is unsettling indeed, as he shows up unannounced with a sickly smile and tells Jamie that he can no longer prevent him from coming around whenever he likes. That can't be good.

The Sinner Season 3 premieres in 2020 on USA Network. The first two seasons of The Sinner are now streaming on Netflix.
