Nathan Fillion is sticking around
The Rookie will stick around for long enough to make its title irrelevant. ABC has picked up the freshman action dramedy for a full season, Variety reports. The network ordered an additional seven episodes of Season 1, bringing the total order to 20. That's slightly less than the traditional average of 22 episodes in a season, though slightly smaller orders have become the new normal for network series.
The Rookie stars Nathan Fillion as a midwestern man in his 40s who moves to Los Angeles to fulfill his dream of becoming an LAPD officer. Along the way, he has to convince his peers and superiors that he deserves to be there despite being the oldest rookie the department has ever seen. The series has averaged 9.7 million viewers and a solid 1.8 in the 18-49 demographic in Live+7 ratings to date, according to Variety, which makes it ABC's top-rated new drama of the season. ABC's other new drama, A Million Little Things, earned a full-season pickup last month.
The Rookie airs Tuesdays at 10/9c on ABC.
