With its short first season and a late start to Season 2, fans of Fox's The Orville have to wait over a year between the Season 1 finale and Season 2 premiere. But there's proof that Season 2 is definitely coming, as Fox released a new trailer for Season 2 during The Orville panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday.
The first thing I noticed in the trailer is how much looks done already! Considering that one of the reasons for the long wait between seasons involves all the post-production that goes into the series' special effects, we got a much longer look at Season 2 than I would have thought. However, part of that could be attributed to the fact that Season 1 was shortened by an episode, and that episode was pushed back to Season 2.
The second thing to note is how much Halston Sage, who plays security head Alara, is in the trailer. There's been speculation online, mostly over at Reddit, that Sage wouldn't be appearing in Season 2 that much. But there she is, all over the trailer. Maybe that's her on that horse she was telling us about? So, rest easy for now, Alara fans.
And finally, Ed (Seth MacFarlane) appears to be all on his own in a future episode that will highlight the captain. Looking worse for wear, Ed finds himself on a hostile planet with little means of escape, but who's pointing a gun at him? In another apparent episode, the crew makes first contact with an unexplored civilization, and welcome them to the galaxy.
The Orville returns on a special night after football on Dec. 30 on Fox.
