The last time we saw Emily (Alexis Bledel) in Season 1 of The Handmaid's Tale, she was being forced into a black van after going rogue and running over a guard with a stolen car. Most fans assumed she would be executed or sent to the Colonies for that stunt, but in Season 2, we'll be seeing more of Emily, both in the present and in the past.
"I will say she's a very critical part of [Season 2]," executive producer Warren Littlefield told TV Guide at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. "We're able to, using flashbacks, go back into her past as well as bring her to the present. I think it's highly effective, particularly as we explore the character of Emily. Alexis is quite remarkable."
Finding out where Emily is now has obviously been on everyone's minds (not to mention, whether she's still part of the resistance), but potentially more exciting is this peek into her backstory. Seeing how she experienced the rise of Gilead will no doubt present us with some new, equally horrifying flashbacks.
The Handmaid's Tale Season 2 premieres April 25 on Hulu.
