There's a new resident heading to the ABC drama
The Good Doctor is giving Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) some competition.
Wilfred's Fiona Gubelmann has signed on for a five-episode recurring role with the option to become a series regular in Season 2 of ABC's smash hit medical drama, Deadline reports. She'll play Morgan, "a charming, funny new resident who is fully embracing life and yet also quite cutthroat (but it's never personal)," according to Deadline. She'll be "healthy competition," even for the brilliant young Dr. Murphy. She'll make her debut in an upcoming episode called "She," TV Guide can confirm. The episode is filming now.
Gubelmann is best known for starring on the FX comedy series Wilfred from 2011 to 2014. Her most recent starring role was on VH1's Daytime Divas, which was canceled in November after one season. She also starred in a Hallmark Christmas movie called Christmas Next Door, which premiered Dec. 16.
The Good Doctor is the most-watched new series of the fall. It has not yet been picked up for a second season, but it's a slam dunk for a renewal.
The Good Doctor airs Mondays at 10/9c on ABC.
