The sci-fi epic will live on
It's nice to have friends in high places, and no friend is in a higher place than Amazon head Jeff Bezos.
Bezos is a superfan of The Expanse, having personally saved the show from cancellation when Syfy dumped it after three seasons. Apparently he's not ready to let it go, either. Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke announced Saturday that the company has renewed the series for a fifth season.
The news comes before The Expanse is gearing up to release its first season exclusively for Amazon; Season 4 will premiere Dec. 13. The three previous seasons, which aired on Syfy, are also available on Amazon.

The Expanse is based on the books by James S.A. Corey and has one of the most rich political systems in a fantasy/sci-fi setting since Game of Thrones. In the future, when mankind has colonized Mars and is mining asteroids for resources, Earth and Mars find themselves at odds and on the brink of war while a mysterious alien threat looms. It's very good.
Season 4 of The Expanse will premiere Friday, Dec. 13 on Amazon.
