On Thursday, we'll finally be introduced to Famke Janssen's Susan "Scottie" Hargrave on The Blacklist. And we've seen a lot of her in various promotional materials — shocker, she looks like Famke Janssen — but we still don't know who she is, whether she has a relationship to the other characters, or how she's a big enough character to be powering her own (potential) spin-off.
Don't worry, though: we have some theories. Three, to be exact!
1. Katarina Rostova
At the end of the last episode, the Blacklist team posed a shocking question: is Scottie actually Katarina Rostova, aka Liz's (Megan Boone) biological mother? Viewers know that Solomon (Edi Gathegi) had explicit instructions to not harm Elizabeth during her attempted kidnapping a few episodes back. Could this be because the person who hired him was her mother? It's certainly not out of the realm of possibility.
2. Tom's Mother
Numerous publications, including Variety, seem to be buying into this theory, so there's a good amount of heat behind it. Since the show's ultimate goal is to move Scottie and Tom (Ryan Eggold) to their own spin-off series next season, would it really make much sense for Scottie to be Liz's mother, if she is supposed to go off with Tom on her own adventures? Not really. Also, it would be nice to know there's at least one character on The Blacklist with a clear understanding of who their parents are.
3. A Member of the Cabal
Liz and Red (James Spader) could've totally missed a member or two of this evil organization. Yes, the Cabal is destroyed, but could one of its members be out for revenge? If so, why not just kill Liz on the spot? Maybe because Scottie — if she is indeed a Cabal member — wants to hurt Red. And the best way to hurt Red is to hurt Liz.
Who do you think Scottie is? Let us know in the comments below.
The Blacklist airs Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC.
