The Best New Shows on Netflix This Week - A Christmas Prince Sequel, F Is for Family

Ready to watch something new on Netflix this weekend? Here is a list of all the best new shows and movies released on Netflix this week.

Sandwiched between the big deal releases earlier in November like the Coen brothers' latest bleak western The Ballad of Buster Scruggs and coming up in December like Alfonso Cuaron's Oscar contender Roma, this week's releases are a little less splashy than we've become accustomed to. This is not to say that there are not a lot of things coming out, because there definitely are. They just happen to be lower-stakes fare like a Great British Baking Show special. It's like an easy downhill stretch in the never-ending Tour de Netflix race.

A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding
Last year's hit holiday movie A Christmas Prince was Netflix's first big shot at taking the Christmas crown from the Hallmark Channel, and it's back to finish the job with this sequel. iZombie's Rose McIver plays a regular woman with whom Prince Richard of Aldovia (Ben Lamb) fell in love. And if you think the royal wedding is going to be easy, tiene cucarachas en tu cabeza, my dude. She's chafing against her royal responsibilities, bro! They're making her give up her blog!

1983, Season 1
You like Polish language alternate history crime/espionage thrillers, right? Well, then you're going to love 1983, the latest entry in that teeming genre. Set in a version of 2003 Poland where a terror attack in 1983 changed the course of history and communism in Poland never ended, the Iron Curtain never fell, U2 never wrote "One" and the Cold War is still going on, it follows a law student and a police investigator as they uncover a conspiracy that could lead to a revolution. It can tide you over while you wait for the excellent alternate history espionage thriller Counterpart to return. (I told you it was a thriving genre!) (Trailer)

F Is for Family, Season 3
Bill Burr's animated sitcom doesn't get the online attention BoJack Horseman gets, but it's low-key much funnier, provided you think angry squawking dads are funny, which I do. Few dads are angrier than Burr's Frank Murphy, who loses his damn mind at his good-for-nothing family every chance he gets. Plus, American treasure Laura Dern is in the voice cast. Laura Dern wouldn't be in it if it was bad. (Trailer)

Death By Magic, Season 1
A shaved head/tight beard British magician named Drummond Money-Coutts, aka DMC, attempts stunts that killed famous escape artists of yesteryear in this reality series. DMC is no David Blaine, but who is? Renewal pending on whether or not DMC drowns or gets hit by a train or decapitates himself with a chain.

Baby, Season 1
A pair of teenage girls from Rome's poshest neighborhood get drawn into a secret underground double life in this Italian import. It's loosely based on a true story, and it's maybe a little too sexy for its own good. (Trailer)

The Great British Baking Show: Holidays
Two words: snowglobe cakes. If you're already a Great British Baking Show cultist, you're going to love this Christmas-themed special. If not, maybe it'll be what gets you into it. (Trailer)

Here Are the 100 Best Shows Right Now

Happy as Lazzaro
I watched the trailer for this Italian indie movie and I have absolutely no idea what it's about -- I guess Lazzaro is a cute kid who can travel through time? -- but it won Best Screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival, so it must be good? (Trailer)

Rajma Chawal
A father pretends to be a hot girl on Facebook to connect with his angsty millennial son who won't talk to him in this Indian romantic comedy. (Don't worry, the romance is not between father and son). Honestly, that's the funniest movie premise I've heard in a long time. (Trailer)

Spy Kids: Mission Critical, Season 2
I'm old enough to remember when Spy Kids was a movie with Puss in Boots and the mom from The Haunting of Hill House, which is not very old at all, but it feels like it sometimes. I wouldn't have expected that the franchise had the kind of legs to sustain an animated series almost 20 years later, but a lot of things I never would have thought were possible have happened. Time Share (Tiempo Compartido)
A family checks into a luxury resort and then things get weird in this dark dramedy from Mexico. It has that kind of After Hours, things-keep-getting-worse-and-worse vibe. R.J. Mitte from Breaking Bad is in it. Shoutout to him. (Trailer)

The World Is Yours
One last job, Parisian style. A drug dealer agrees to transport one last shipment before getting out of the life. Things don't go as planned. It's an action comedy in the vein of Snatch. Vincent Cassel is in it, and Vincent Cassel is almost never in bad movies, so keep that in mind when deciding whether or not to watch. (Trailer)

Battle
This movie sounds like it would be about war, but nope! It's a Norwegian version of Save the Last Dance. It's practically a remake of that early '00s teen flick, where a classically trained young white girl dancer meets a sexy nonwhite hip-hop dancer. (Saturday, Dec. 1) (Trailer)

Crossroads One Two Jaga
Netflix is so cool. Where else could you stumble upon a gritty Malaysian crime thriller with a socially conscious twist? (Saturday, Dec. 1) (Trailer)

Memories of the Alhambra, Season 1
While looking for the elusive creator of a seemingly magical augmented reality game in Granada, Spain, a business executive buys a hostel and gets more than he bargained for. This Korean series looks like a wild blend of sci-fi and romance. (Saturday, Dec. 1) (Trailer)

Hero Mask, Season 1
The trailer for this anime series is a dialogue-free series of quick cuts of people sipping drinks and talking on the phone and kind of seems like it's making fun of the show for including too many shots of people looking pensive while drinking coffee. The plot is actually about investigator trying to unravel a coverup that goes all the way to the top. (Monday, Dec. 3) (Trailer)

The Sound of Your Heart: Reboot, Season 2

Russell Brand: Re:Birth
Russell Brand is a big deal in England and was very famous in America around the turn of the decade, but his notoriety here has receded, which seems at least partially by design.
