The Bachelor: Two Contestants Ditch the Dude for Each Other in Vietnam

But as always with this show, we can't have the happy ending

MaryAnn Sleasman

No matter where in the world it takes place, the rhythm of The Bachelor is pretty universal. You know the drill: women throw themselves at some eligible bachelor in hopes of winning his affections and a glamorous career as B-grade tabloid fodder.

But sometimes the show lives up to Chris Harrison's frequent promises of MOST DRAMATIC EPISODE EVER. On the Vietnamese iteration of The Bachelor, the love story took a turn for the AWESOME when two lovely lady lovers told their potential grand prize to pound sand and rode off into the sunset together.

After bachelor Nguyen Quoc Trung gave one of the coveted roses to contestant Truc Nhu, fellow contestant Minh Thu stole the spotlight when she confessed her love -- not for Trung, but for Nhu, according to Asian news site Next Shark.

Thu approached Nhu, hugged her tight, and asked her to come home with her. Thu attempted to return the rose to Trung who, in typical dude-bro parlance, tried to convince Nhu to stay and continue to compete for his TV love by telling her she would regret leaving the show to shack up with a fellow contestant who, it should be noted, was NOT given a rose to proceed to the next round of desperate flirtations.

This is the part when Thu and Nhu were supposed to run off together and live happily ever after, and they did! For like 10 minutes!

And then Nhu decided to return to the show after all, crushing the hopes and dreams of true romantics who inexplicably watch this show everywhere.

As far as we can tell, this is the first time in the history of the Bachelor franchise that two contestants went for each other during a season, though Bachelor Australia contestants Megan Marx and Tiffany Scanlon have found post-Bachelor love together. The only other thing that comes close to what we've seen above has to be the unforgettable doting duo of Clint and JJ from Kaitlin Bristowe's season of The Bachelorette. Those were the days!
