There Might Be a The 100 Spin-Off, and We're Freaking Out

Praimfaya prequel? Yes, please!

The 100 will hit the reset button when Season 6 premieres later this month and begins Book II, the next chapter in the series' story, but there may be a totally different chapter in this saga in the works at The CW.

While promoting the show's return at WonderCon 2019, showrunner Jason Rothenberg teased that a spin-off set in The 100 universe could be on the horizon after a fan asked what potential spin-off ideas the cast was most interested in seeing at the show's panel.

"I think I would want to see one where ... the beginning of the spin-off is the first bomb going off," Richard Harmon said. "And everything of like the people who become the Grounders, the people who survive, them dealing with kind of everything. I think that would be spin-off I'd want to see."

"We may be working on something. Can't talk about it," Rothenberg then added. "I'll probably get in trouble for saying that."

Sorry to get you in trouble, bro, but OMG, WHAT?!

While "working on something" doesn't necessarily translate to a spin-off order being in the bag, it's definitely interesting to hear that discussions about delving into another time period in The 100's long history could be happening.

If you're unfamiliar, Harmon's answer references a prequel story that has long been alluded to on The 100 but never fully explored. Ninety-seven years before Clarke and the original teens were sent down from the Ark, the world found itself in the midst of a nuclear apocalypse that appeared to have killed all life on Earth. As we now know, there were survivors who could withstand the radiation from the bombs, who eventually became the Grounders. That story and the foundation of the Grounders' war-torn culture was explored briefly in Season 3 of The 100, but there's definitely enough story left to launch a new series should The CW decide to take the idea further.

TV Guide reached out for comment but did not hear back before publication.

The 100 returns Tuesday, April 30 at 9/8c on The CW.
