Teen Choice Awards Add Social Responsibility to Mix

The Teen Choice Awards — that summer kudosfest with surfboards for trophies — honors the stars that teens dig the most. This year, though, the annual Fox event will be honoring more than fame with the brand-new "Do Something" category. According to the Awards website, the new category will "recognize a young non-celebrity leader who is devoted to making a positive impact on social issues." All nominees are under 25 and the winner will receive $100k for their project. With self-started initiatives such as the Mali Health Organizing Project, the nominated teens and young adults collectively make the rest of us seem apathetic in comparison — perhaps just the viewer inspiration that an awards show needs. The Awards air Monday, Aug. 4 (8 pm/ET, Fox). — Anna Dimond
