T Bone Burnett, the executive music producer for ABC's Nashville, will not be returning for the show's second season this fall, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

Burnett, who is also married to creator Callie Khouri, helped create and produce dozens of songs for the country music drama starring Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere. But it was only his plan to stay involved for Nashville's first season, his manager told The Hollywood Reporter, which first reported the news.

"His slate of other film, television and recording projects would have made it impossible for him to return for a second season," Burnett's manager said in a statement. "He became close to many of the actors on Nashville, and wishes all of them — as well as the show's producers, writers and crew — all the best with the coming season."

Burnett's right-hand man Buddy Miller will now step into the executive music producer role for Nashville.

Upcoming projects for Burnett include soundtracking the Coen brothers film Inside Llewyn Davis and producing a new record for Elton John.
