Is there hope for The Event? More than two weeks after NBC pulled the plug on the ratings-challenged sci-fi drama, Entertainment Weekly reports that sister channel SyFy is considering turning Season 2 into a miniseries.

However, Craig Engler, senior vice president and general manager of SyFy Digital, rebuffed the report on Twitter shortly after the story was published Wednesday. "To answer some questions I've been getting, at this time we have no plans to pick up The Event," Engler wrote on his Twitter. (A rep for the cable station also told EW there is no deal for a miniseries.)

If, however, SyFy were to pick The Event, it's unclear how long the miniseries would last for and, more importantly, who from the cast would return. Series regulars Jason Ritter, Blair Underwood, Laura Innes and others cast members were released from their obligations to the series as soon as NBC opted not to pick it up.

The Event premiered to 10.9 million viewers in September, but ended its first season with an audience of just 4.9 million.
