On Wednesday's new episode of Law & Order: SVU (9/8c, NBC), Covert Affairs' Peter Gallagher makes his debut as Williams Dodds, the new deputy chief of SVU, and he doesn't waste any time getting down to business.

In this exclusive sneak peek, Benson (Mariska Hargitay) is blindsided when she finds Dodds already waiting in her office and demanding the latest information from both her and Amaro (Danny Pino) about a bike messenger who has committed a string of violent acts against women and will likely strike again. "If you'd been here, I wouldn't have had to wait," Dodds sternly tells Benson.
