Law & Order: SVU Boss on New Chris Christie Scandal: The Headlines Seem to Be Ripping From Us

Art usually imitates life, but in the case of Law & Order: SVU, the opposite appears to be true.

This past Wednesday's episode, titled "Jersey Breakdown," centered on several corrupt (and fictitious) New Jersey lawmakers who were receiving kickbacks from a notoriously horrible for-profit private company in exchange for State fees. On Friday, a new report surfaced linking New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie — already taking heat for the Fort Lee traffic jam scandal — to a notorious, privately run prison company.

"In our story, some dirty money even found its way into the Governor's campaign fund. In a Salon article published today, Governor Chris Christie is accused of promoting and lobbying for CEC, a scandal-plagued for-profit prison company that has received huge fees from the state of New Jersey," SVU showrunner Warren Leight said in a statement obtained by TVGuide.com. "The headlines seem to be ripping from us."

This is just the latest SVU episode this season to air ahead of the news cycle. "Personal Fouls," about a longtime coach accused of sexually harassing his underage players, aired two months before Penn State's longtime football coach Jerry Sandusky was indicted on 40 counts of sex crimes against young boys.
