When Is the Supernatural Series Finale Air Date?

The original air date could be changing

Kaitlin Thomas

Update 3/23/2020: Supernaturalshowrunner Andrew Dabb announced via Twitter that the March 23 episode, titled "Destiny's Child," will be the last new episode for a "while." While the show had already completed filming through Episode 18 out of a planned 20, the visual effects and audio weren't finished on those episodes before production was halted on March 13, resulting in another hiatus. With no new episodes airing for a while, the show's scheduled May 18 series finale date now seems highly unlikely.

Update 3/16/2020: With just weeks to go in the filming of the final season, production on Supernatural was suspended on March 13 in response to the coronavirus outbreak. There has been no word yet on how or whether the shutdown will affect the scheduled airing of the series finale in May.

Previously 11/8/2019: As someone who used to make a lot of jokes on the internet about Supernatural outliving us all, I still can't believe I'm about to type these words, but here it goes: The CW has released its 2020 midseason premiere dates, and with them, the date of Supernatural's series finale. So clear your calendars, SPN Family, because after 15 seasons of monster hunting, brotherly bonding, and single man tears, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) will be closing the doors on the family business on Monday, May 18 at 8/7c.

That date makes it all very real, doesn't it? It often felt like we'd never get here, like the sun would burn out or climate change would kill us all before the Brothers Winchesters said their final goodbyes, but it's real. It's happening. Of course, there are still a number of episodes to go before the road ends, though. And the long-running, fan-favorite series, which actually debuted on The WB (remember The WB?), will move from its current Thursday timeslot to Mondays beginning March 16 and act as the lead-in to the second season of Roswell, New Mexico.

Supernatural isn't the only CW show signing off this season, though. Arrow is ending as well, and The CW has also revealed the series finale date for it too. But that show lasted just eight seasons, so who cares, am I right?

Supernatural's series finale airs Monday, May 18 at 8/7c on The CW.
