Just a Girl: Supergirl Gets That Normal Life She Wanted So Badly

Even superheroes need vacations

Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist) has been fighting some serious self-esteem issues over the past few weeks of Supergirlas she tries to prove she's as good as Superman, or as charming as Lucy Lane (Jenna Dewan-Tatum) or a capable female superhero.

Well, now Kara will get a taste of what it's really like to be "just a girl" in the alien-filled world as her recent battle with the Red Tornado (Iddo Goldberg) has left her powerless. The first clue we had was at the end of Monday's episode in which she cut herself on glass and (gasp!) actually bled. But that's not all. It turns out that the Kryptonian short-circuited her super strength, x-ray vision and all of her other special gifts when she went full-on rage monster on the military droid that could create tornadoes in its hand.

Up Up and Away! CBS confirms full season of Supergirl

In the previews for Monday's (Dec. 7) episode, James (Mehcad Brooks) tells Kara to enjoy her "vacation," but obviously that will be impossible. The scarier thought is that the show will spend more time asking, "Is Kara good enough?" because they've proven that over and over again.

Instead, it would be great to see Kara realize how good she has it with super powers during her time without them. What if she ate all those sticky buns and couldn't stay a Size 2? What if she woke up with pimples and had legitimate cause to wonder how she could ever be as pretty as Lucy?

The show has put so much focus on the struggle of being a girl that seeing a powerless Kara actually grapple with that identity would be fun to see.

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8/7c on CBS.
