Stranger Things Season 5 Part 1 had the most climactic ending. After Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) stepped through a portal and began to wreak havoc on Hawkins, all seemed to be lost for The Party. But just as a demogorgon was about to strike Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard), Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) unlocked some dormant powers to control the hive mind. This demogorgon froze in the air — and so did two others that were inches away from attacking Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin) and Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke). Then, in quick succession, all three monsters had their limbs snapped and dropped dead. It was the biggest reveal of the season so far — Will has supernatural abilities, and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) is no longer the only one with a chance of taking down Vecna.

Since the awakening of Will's abilities occurred after Vecna returned to the Upside Down, we had to ask Jamie Campbell Bower how his character would react to Will being capable of controlling the hive mind. "I think Vecna already knew that Will was capable," Bower told TV Guide, adding that it likely has ties to "the imprinting that their meeting had upon him early on in [Will's] life."

The actor also expanded on what this means for Vecna going forward. "[Will's] a byproduct, he's a means to an end at that point in the story. So it's frustrating, but it's not the be-all and end-all for Vecna," Bower said.

And what exactly would be the be-all and end-all for Vecna? "Total destruction of the world and to reshape it into whatever it is that he wants it to be," Bower explained. "It's kind of a swallowing of what we know, to spew out something else."

Stranger Things Season 5 Part 1 is available to stream on Netflix.
